Only two species of mammals that are native ti NZ -both bats. NZ was a land of birds.
That's surprising that there's no snakes in NZ. Here in urban Miami, there's not many snakes either, mostly garter snakes. It's a whole different ballpark in the Everglades though.

If you ask me NZ is one of the best countries in the world. Moderate climate, lush green, not many venomous things, mountains, ocean. Just sheer beauty.

Lol you have pythons in the everglades. Same thing in Raleigh from what I hear, snakes only in wooded areas. As for the country side where I live its a whole nother story.

NZ broke off from the super continent before snakes evolved. Occasionally sea snakes (and sea turtles) are seen as far south as my region.

I saw a doco on Pythons in Florida -what a pain that would be.

We have quite a few native snakes, but I've never seen one. I did see one's shedded skin, however. I got the hell away from it.

There are 4 snake species in the UK; 3 native and one introduced.

Yep, it's pretty awesome. Not all areas are so lush though (see photo), but rain is reliable for most areas. Temperatures are conductive to an outdoor lifestyle. Terrain and vegetation is varied and the coast is never far away.

Only one species of venomous spider, but no known fatalities.
