Interesting that in Greece and Spain, the Left are anti-EU. Perhaps not surprising given the Left in Greece and Spain probably see the EU as forcing unpopular austerity on them while in the UK austerity is a policy we have pursued on our own without external influence.

From over here, it doesn't seem that why the left should be pro-EU and right anti-EU, as opposed to partly a populism axis. The coverage of the EU from the left half of the American political spectrum is generally negative because it's anti-austerity. Low democratic checks also give it a negative image. Maybe a very reluctant Remain. By a center-left economist:
The Right in the UK want out of the EU primarily because of immigration from Eastern Europe. Most other factors are secondary. For the Left in the UK, democratic accountability is less important (myself included) because the UK itself has a democratic deficit with an unelected House of Lords and a poorly functioning voting system that gives wildly unrepresentative governments (such as a political party with 4 million votes getting 50 seats in government while a party with 14 million votes gets only 1).
I think other countries in the EU like Sweden and Germany are more democratic than we are, and leaving the EU wouldn't change that. I don't think the Right in the UK seriously care about democratic accountability either as they are firmly opposed to electoral reform in the UK itself.
Here's a map showing support for 'Brexit'. Darker the red, more support for leaving the EU. Support for EU membership is highest in major cities and Scotland.

Weird. I thought most anti-immigrant fears were from 3rd world countries not Eastern European. What fraction of British immigrants are Eastern European.
They don't like immigration from 3rd world countries either, but in the EU we can't do much to curb the numbers of Eastern Europeans coming to the UK. Though these people often fail to realise that immigration from outside the EU is rising too and no government in the UK is going to reduce it. The current government promised to reduce immigration but it hasn't.
Another graph. EU supporters in the UK tend to be under 40, university educated, left-wing and middle-class.
I think I'd lean towards Leave if I lived in Britain but I probably wouldn't have much in common with the views of Leave voters.
