I have found that suddenly in early April things usually start to speed up and by mid April most trees have leaves on them..
Obviously this poor March we are having has not helped speed things up and yeah it does look a bit dead still, but in 2 weeks time most trees should bring their leaves out I would have thought. The weather forecast shows much more sun and finally some slightly warmer temperatures so I would have thought that next weekend would help to speed things up too. It hasn't helped that the highest temperature this March so far has been only 15C!

Taken at/near London Zoo on 13th April 2014. As you can see, things should look more like this in about 2 week's time
I think I saw both the warmest (2011) and coldest (2013) spring in recorded history in London?
23 March 2011
8 April 2011:
Some of the oaks in the higher parts of North London were still completely bare on 1 May 2013, though that probably won't happen again in our lifetimes. This was 24 March that year though, as far as I am aware the latest date anywhere in London had ever recorded an ice day until it happened again the day after
Btw here are the temperatures in Hampstead for 23-25 March 2013 - I think it was 83 consecutive hours at or below freezing in the end. I know it's not that cold really, but to get those temperatures in that part of the country so late in the year (particularly the afternoon of the 24th) is probably the most surreal weather event I've ever seen.

April 2011 was ridiculously warm.. our April that year was warmer than July for many places in northern UK/Ireland! Those early blooms would have been after December 2010 as well, our coldest on record
lulz, according to accuweathers "relaible" 50 day forecasts, it won't happen untill at least the 5th of may.in fact, the temperature will not go above 60f under this time period.
Accuweather routinely forecasts what would be the coldest spring/summer/autumn temps on record, they really haven't got a clue, lol. They can't even get the averages right, even though they are freely available on the MO website.
