It is from Canoga Park which is within L.A city limits; it's in the valley which allow more diurnal heating and cooling than near the coast or downtown; average summer highs are near 100 while the average summer lows are in the 50s!

Just wondering, are there actual places in the world that see such diurnal ranges?

0ºC to 40ºC would be better for me.

Portugal can manage 10ºC lows followed by 40ºC highs in some valley locations.

Pinnacles National Park daily averages in summer:

June: 31C/5C
July and August: 35C/7C

So I could see a 40C/0C happening there in September or early October.

OK, a 104/32 day was never recorded, but there was a 103/38 (39/3) high/low temperature on August 28, 2009. There also was a 95/32 (35/0) day on September 13, 2008.

0 to 40 would at least have a good portion of the day with comfortable temperatures.

0 to -40 already starts uncomfortably cold, and then becomes a risk to life.
