29.9C yesterday, which is level with the December record. December has never recorded 30C for Nelson.

Rain forecast for tonight, with some stormy looking cloud gathering.

Just passed 2500 hours for the year, 2600 hours might be on the cards.

Nearly 200 hours behind the leaders though, something ain't right

You may find salvation in your local EWSs. I think "Aero" has deteriorated a little - looking back only as far as 2012 strongly suggests it.

Nice and surprising thunderstorm here last night. A nice gif of one of the lightnings:

The Chistmas Eve will be not very hot.

An Interesting temperature variation in Christchurch two days ago, with two different stations within Christchurch city limits recording a 36C temperature difference within 24 hours.

Another Christmas day - got about 20 turning up for lunch today.

Temperature at 11.15 am is 21C at 41% RH, with clear skies and a steady sea breeze -quite a bright day.

Photo shows the view to the SE -the Mt Richmond Range in the background -about 50 km away..

Water certainly cools down fa lot slower than the air temperature. Just went for a swim with the air temperature at 16C, but the water temperature at 23C -it felt very warm..

In some occasions, a daily rainfall of 70mm (and up) can be catastrophic. You can lose your home and you could drown if you were in the floods. A user here was boasting on the fact that some areas got this much rain and I was simply telling him that these conditions shouldn't be celebrated, considering their pernicious outcomes.
