And with a weak Nina or neutral, and a big fat warm PDO, I expect every winter forecast to show cold over the East. That would be 6 out of the last 8 winters. Sooner or later we are going to get a string of non winters. At least Bastardi has even said that. I assume it is when that evil warm PDO gets destroyed for good.

Wonder what the monthly composition would look like. I'm barely below average on that map, so I would like to see each month separate maybe I muster up an above average january. Still too early right now to get a perfect idea of this winter. But we have some analogs in mind.

Not good for me. Neutral usually means really cold in east.

Yup weak La Nina and ENSO neutral with +PDO and +AMO mean cold winters for the eastern two thirds

NSO-neutral and winter weather patterns

Then there’s all of the ENSO-neutral events – for which we have a considerably larger sample size – to consider. What sticks out on the temperature map is the large expanse and impressive intensity of cold anomalies over Canada. A “finger of chill” points at the Great Lakes and Northeast. Little warmth is apparent except for near Greenland (hinting at a propensity for blocking).

You know what winter was ENSO neutral with positive PDO? 1978-1979
