Not here. Only two Jan months between 1980 and 1989 were above average: 1983 and 1989. Not to mention 1977, 1978, mean were below avg, and jan 1979 was barely average. There is no disputing the 80's were a cold decade in the eastern US.

I did some research and discovered that the cold epoch was from 1975 to 1982. Late 70s in particular were the worst period, 80s were just consistently average, maybe a bit below average. Maybe the Southeast got more affected by the cold than the Northeast in the 80s

Current Map with Metars and Upper Level Flow.

You can see the fog reports around this area which I confirmed with my photo
You can see the W/NW flow happening now
And most importantly...the clearing coming!!

Oh look whats coming,.. Awesome. It's been a while. Just started drizzling.

9 days in a row with a Trace or more.

13 out of last 17 days had precip.

All together now.... what do we always say in this region?

"Enough with the rains".... and then .... "We need rain". Rinse, Wash, Repeat.

Not so much for the Midwest. The 1960's and 1970's were colder.

Some interesting May history for Chicago

January through May 1977: Averages just don

1977 was a very interesting year here. Coldest January and warmest May on record. In the end, the year ended up near average.

Similiar to last year in the northeast, coldest Feb on record then warmest may and December on record and September also?

Quite a big temperature difference between south and north tomorrow. We're staying warmer than Lisbon, though.

Radar loop last 4hrs. Notice the 45dbz returns just popped up, just started getting heavier here.

Another hour or so then we start the clearing trend.
