Nonsense. A trace of what? Water? Had some sleet here as well, but it melted on contact, either way sleet isn't snow.

whether it melted on the ground or not doesn't matter for counting as snow; snowfall is reported from the amount fallen. There's probably some snow mixed in with the sleet there. It's possible that Manhattan got snow while Suffolk County got sleet; less warm mixing aloft there, closer to the interior.

They count Sleet and hail as snow. There was no snow falling. They even say it in their message. It was just sleet there and light.

A trace does not mean sticking or accumulations. So any sleet or snow that falls without sticking = a Trace. Islip and I got that October 19th but that was snow.

No accumulations yet though. None for Albany or Worcester either.

Good. Push that warm air north to help displace the Polar Vortex. Bring that baby southward

Here's Danbury's sounding per RAP00z

All levels at or below freezing still but 1 problem for now... Mid and Lower level has Dry air. Any precip moving over the area is drying up before reaching the ground but a few pellets are making it. Northern CT the same. a tad bit colder at the mid levels.

Danbury is reporting "unknown precip" right now. Temp is 31°

Actual sounding from the Balloon Launch over Long Island. Cool!

Atmospheric Soundings
Upper-Air page: RAP Real-Time Weather

It's only below freezing from 2000 to 5000 feet. Below and Above that layer its above freezing! Notice the dry air as well. Dewpoints dry at the mid level! (green line)

It's hard to gauge how much has fallen when it's melting instantaneously, I guess that's why they recorded a trace. I'm seeing reports of light snow in parts of the city now though.
