Nevada City overall has an excellent climate, Lyon not bad but not exceptional either. NC does have 4 months of intense rain and the rest of the year it's sunny and very pleasant...I thought about moving there at one time but those Cali taxes dissuade me.
Lyon isn't mediterranean for sure.. I still prefer it though because Nevada City's rainfall pattern is a bit too extreme in an otherwise ok climate.
