It was a line that came across PA that got enhanced over Philly early morning as the warm front came through. That storm may have added gas to the fire for this afternoon since it made it more humid

people from hotter summer climates may be amused. Mostly cloudy at least

...HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM EDT THIS EVENING...

* LOCATION...CONNECTICUT VALLEY...INCLUDING SOUTHWEST
MASSACHUSETTS AND NORTHERN CONNECTICUT.

* HEAT INDEX VALUES...NEAR 100 DEGREES DUE TO TEMPERATURES IN THE
MID 90S AND DEWPOINTS 65 TO 70.

* TIMING...THIS AFTERNOON.

* IMPACTS...HEAT RELATED ILLNESSES WILL BE POSSIBLE WITH
OVEREXERTION...ESPECIALLY IN THE SUN.

and now for more excitement than heat + humidity

...SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLE ACROSS SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND THIS
AFTERNOON AND EVENING...

THERE IS A RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS PORTIONS OF
SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING. A LINE OF
THUNDERSTORMS IS EXPECTED TO MOVE INTO SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND FROM
THE WEST EARLY THIS AFTERNOON. IF IT HOLDS TOGETHER AS IT
PROGRESSES EASTWARD IT SHOULD EXIT THE COAST AROUND 9 PM THIS
EVENING.

THE GREATEST RISK FROM THESE STORMS IS DAMAGING WIND GUSTS OF
60 MPH OR GREATER. HEAVY DOWNPOURS AND DANGEROUS CLOUD TO GROUND
LIGHTNING WILL ALSO BE A THREAT. ANYONE WITH OUTDOOR PLANS FOR
THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING SHOULD KEEP AN EYE TO THE SKY AND BE
PREPARED TO MOVE INDOORS TO A PLACE OF SAFETY. REMEMBER...WHEN
THUNDER ROARS GO INDOORS.

Checking the radar, it's not as bright as some previous storms. Brightest is yellow, but it's a solid line. Currently roughly along the Hudson, starting maybe 30 miles north of NYC to the northern Adirondacks. So it's not patchy; as it moves eastward it can't miss us.

These storms hit or miss have been doing a great job of creating fast evening cooldowns. Haven't had trouble sleeping without A/C so far this way. Upstate NY to the west of the rainfront is in the 70s but with dews in the low 70s. 92°F here

2 maps.. Update (2:10pm)

Should be cloudy over you.. I checked the lightning map and it's been reduced. So it's weakening. Which is good but could re strengthen! Just need to moisture to stick around! I haven't checked the PWAT values. Just watching the radar.

And.. see all the little dots.. convective storms. Some strong

Hmm, lack of sun might weaken convective, New England seems to be a bad place for thunderstorms to re-strengthen. We shall see.

0.3" so far today. Brings our monthly total over an inch but still well behind and with all the heat shouldn't help the drought much.

Thanks & Thanks! Very helpful. 1/4" would be nice.

Sorry nei, the strongest is missing you and about to hit me. I'll let you know what I get. I assume torrential for some minutes if those reds continue down
