How high do you think the clouds in the bottom photo are?
A common question, it seems!
They were still growing but at that point maybe 20,000ft? Rozenn will probably be able to confirm with the cloud top chart.
Aircraft departing seemed to be climbing a lot quicker and steeper than usual. I saw a 777 climbing at what looked like around 25-30 degrees! I didn't think aircraft climbed out at more than 20 degrees (unless there are hills etc in the way).
Noticed yesterday that first horse-chesnuts, as well blue lilacs are in blossoms:
It is a very nice season right now because of many blossoms. When the summer comes there are not so many blossoms here as they all have their´s in spring.

I just have a hard time believing those clouds are that height. I'm use to seeing cumulus cloud like that, but usually against a skyline that enables a good estimate of the height, which I can then confirm with the airport site.
Definitely a bit more green in last year's photo. Not a big difference, but I think it's noticeable, don't you think?
Definitely. Wont look too much of a difference especially if it's only a week ahead or behind. But looking close you can tell there was more progress especially on the left side. That tree to the right of the bare one is very noticeable. Kinda crazy given last year was nuts. lol

How did you know?? You guys have a gift. Aside from the clouds/blue sky was there something else that gave it away? Dewpoint there was 61° last year, 34° this morning.
So who would of thought after being early with the budding we would end up late compared to normal and later than last year? That April hard freeze then the cool, cloudy, wet April 26+ did it. I knew it was the longest bud to leaf out I remembered. I been saying that since March. lol

According to the GFS12z which came out not long before that photo and close to initialization (hour6); looks like it was about 30 to 35,000 feet up. This wont be exactly what was happening or exact spot but apparently it was picking up possibility of it.

They look about 10000ft to me.
You've previously estimated cloud heights to be 12000ft or so, when they later been proven to be in the 20-30000ft range.
Interesting Cambium, those clouds over Hampshire produced at least 2 funnel clouds, nothing confirmed over this way though. Off topic, but have you got any idea what that flower is I posted in the garden thread? Another poster managed to identify everything in the pic apart from the flower in the middle.
Skunk Cabbage thanks to Tommy and Nei for bringing it up.
Forgot the exact spot but WHOA, this is a nice comparison showing the 2 week difference. And if it was sunny and warmer it would of been even further along.
Should be fun getting a Summer view here.
Sycamore tree not leafing yet. Now I know what tree produces those pods
Check it out. Close up of 2 of the trees. Gum Tree on the right. I would of never known without the close up. Nice to see them around.
Still not sure what the one on the left is with the cool bead type blooms
Nei? or Nej? lol I did a double take.
Back at my house... finally seeing birds use the house which has been vacant for 5yrs.

I'm not entirely convinced that the cloud height from that site was accurate. The photos in the other post as well as this one showed clouds that lacked visible signs of rapid vertical development.
Nope, it was about 10-12000ft according to the airport site, which was in line with my own estimate. Just a bt of regular old winter convective cumulus.

You don't see clouds spread out like anvils here until they're at least 25000ft.
