The hills around here are all emerald and trees are budding like crazy. April and May are the "real" spring months with extreme plant growth and flowers EVERYWHERE.
Left image 4/16/15: you can see where the snow pack was for a long time. It preserved and protected the Holly from the historic cold air but the rest got damaged.
Middle image 5/11/15: 3 weeks later, new growth. New leaves coming in
Right image 3/5/16: Just today. You can see the Holly is deep green and healthy. We did have a record warm winter so that helped..
Last year was so interesting to experience on so many levels including the affects of the landscape. Tulips never sprouted.
In case you're wondering what the gap is on it. The snowpack was so consistently deep that Rabbits were chewing on the plant as they had no other food around (ground was covered with snow for 2 straight months) and they were on top of the snow eating the Holly. Lack of sun on that side also preventing new growth coming in fast.
Also.. judging by that May pic last year, I almost forgot how fast things bloom and green up. So heads up and do some comparison pics this weekend vs next weekend or month especially for you guys south of Philly!
If we keep getting these heat surges we'll be having early blooms this year!
Went for a walk at the local park yesterday, the sky was particularly dark, and it was windy. Not the most usual type of weather for us here, but as you can see the daisies were there to announce the spring even if the trees still need to wake up.

I haven't been in Bologna lately but here, thanks to milder temperatures, daisies were already blooming in January, as well as roses, calicanthus, rosemaries, winter jasmines, gazanias.
Apricots, plums and silver wattles are now in their late blooming phase, while japanese magnolias, forsythias, violets are in full bloom. Maples and apricots have their first leaves out.
