Rate my fictional climate Dalloland Station (inspired by the incomplete data of the real Dallol, Ethiopia).
Then, name a real life cold climate whose level of cold discomfort matches the discomfort of Dallol's heat (for you personally).

It's too hot for too long... lower the temps by about 10C every month and it would be perfect

U+... and Eismitte, Greenland would be close on the cold. Dallol is way too hot year round but its coldest months are only slightly too hot for the height of summer (97 F / 36 C January high vs. ideal of 90 F / 32 C in JULY). Eismitte is way too cold year round but its hottest months are only slightly too cold for the dead of winter (19 F / -7 C July high vs. ideal of 30 F / -1 C in JANUARY)

D: It's way too hot but a few months are tolerable by my standards.

I think this data is realistic, Dallol probably get that extreme.

Mcmurdo station is comparable.

Uhm. Oymyakon gets 22 °C as an average high in its hottest month. This gets 36 °C as an average high in its coldest month. It's not really the same. Probably somewhere in Greenland or Antarctica at 1,000 meters of altitude would do it for me

But Oymyakon's -50C in winter is a far greater departure from the comfortable 22C is than Dallol's average summer high. Besides, if you had strong AC in Dallol, you could sleep during the heat of the day and only go out at night when the winter temperatures would be in the comfortably warm range (around 24-30C during most hours of darkness). During the summer hours of darkness, it will still be hot (30C to 36C) but far more tolerable (especially with the sun down) than anything you'd ever see in Oymyakon in winter.

For me, the cold equivalent discomfort of Dallol, I would have two categories for this one:

1) In terms of being too oceanic, gloomy, with anemic non-summers, probably Dublin or Eureka, CA
2) in terms of having cold winters and nice summers, probably Des Moines or Moscow

(Dallol not having any rain or Phoenix-style desert thunderstorms also makes me pick colder climates than I normally would in a given climate battle against it).

Do you think people in Oymyakon live without heating ?

Also, Dallol heat is humid, so you can expect absurd heat index of 60+, even at night, in fact, heat index often climb at night due to rise in relative humidity.

And Oymyakon summers are nice, while Dallol winters are torrid(no, 24-30C at night is not comfortable, especially when humidity is high).
