I think immediate areas of East County were also cooler, instead of 90s, they were 70s/80s. Some of them actually loved that summer for that reason. It's not like I wasn't in East County at all, but at the end of the day my home was on sunset cliffs. I also love greenery, not a big fan of dry air (I really feel it on my lips and skin) but most of all love the water. San Diego was a bust that year, and it was also a bust in 2011.

It's pretty jarring you can live in "sunny San Diego" and be shut out off from swimming and enjoying the ocean for 2 years in a row during these pacific cycles. I have maybe 70-90 years total of my life, 2 years is way to much, moved somewhere that is more consistent.

I hate San Diego's summers. Far too hot. Every summer day that's a cloudy day, is a blessing!

It all depends what you are used to, summer in San Deigo is like our March at the coast, and like our April/May inland depending on how far from the coast, i.e. Escondidio or Vista summer is like our April, and Ramona summer is like our May. Plus nights cool off in the San Diego area, compared to where I live (Phoenix, AZ)

The average August day is 76/67 which is actually cool by summer standards and in that "comfort zone" where you don't need AC or heat, cool enough to jog and cycle without overheating but still warm enough to swim. If anything, people complain that it's "not warm enough" to be "summerish" on the beach rather than too hot.

The complaints about heat during the last two summer's warm epoch (and during heat waves that also happen in "normal" summers result from the lack of AC in homes on the coast and this lack of AC (which is ubiquitous in most parts of the U.S.) is a result of our ocean moderated climate.
