If I'm navigating within the Miami-Ft.Lauderdale-WPB area, I don't really need a GPS to get anywhere, I know where pretty much anything is. I guess that's a strong point of being a driver as a living lol.

I'll use a GPS if I'm in a completely unfamiliar city. Even then, I really only use it to see where in the city the destination it's located. I usually memorize what streets to use to get there by looking at the map once and seeing where the destination is in relation to the point I'm currently at.

Same thing in Miami, it's very easy to navigate. Which astounds me why so many people are morons when it comes to directions here. I start rolling my eyes when someone's directions include "make a left at x and x landmark".

Unfortunately for a roadgeek, Australia is a barren wasteland. We don't even have proper freeways linking all the major eastern capitals FFS. Australia's idea of a road network is 2 lanes of rutted asphalt and diamond interchanges. The solution: "rough surface" signs and speed limit reductions. Not to mention we have the most draconian road rules in the world.
Australia sounds like a hellish place for driving. And I see most of the country doesn't allow radar detectors either.

We have great freeways here and endless places to explore.

I couldn't look at a map in a moving car because it made me sick. But I can visualize where I am anyway. Not to mention when we go to FL I have just about every exit number memorized from here to Daytona Beach.

I have all the FL Turnpike/I-75 exits memorized between here and Atlanta. Every rest area as well. Lol. And every exit that has a Cracker Barrel.

I've never bothered to memorize exits. Even route numbers escape my memory from time to time.

In fact I used to draw road signs, with the different state route shields and everything.

Anyone else used to draw maps as a little kid? I remember while looking at a road map, I would try to draw the U.S. and see how well I did compared to the real thing lol.

I haven't eaten there in a long time. The last time was in fact on a road trip, at Thanksgiving 2014. It was actually in the town where the weather forum member "smithgn" lives.
