The Gulf/South Atlantic Coast has been running quite dry for the past few days; inland SE US cities are getting soaked so far this July, whereas Destin, FL picked up only .40 inches of rain.

It seems that along with high pressure, the SAL that blows from the northern African continent during summer plays a role in suppressing tropical convection in the Atlantic. It's no wonder the Gulf/Atlantic coast has been running quite dry; I've never seen this extent of dryness across many cities in the region before.
