These 2 climates are more similar than I thought but there are still some important differences. Which do you choose?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queens...hy_and_climate

I'll go with Queenstown with warmer record lows in winter and being overall drier.

I would go with Queenstown for being sunnier, and with a more even sunshine distribution.

I'm not a fan of Queenstown summers though, as they can turn very chilly very quickly.

Am I the only one who chose Vancouver? I prefer it because it's wetter and warmer.

Christchurch also is similar to Vancouver, although winters are noticeably warmer. Overall, I think New Zealand's temperature range is too narrow for being compared to Vancouver's (except those areas in the inland South), but I agree that Queenstown is very similar (except for the dryness).

The most similar climate to Vancouver in the Southern Hemisphere is Puerto San Julian, the similarity is stunning in both temperatures and sunshine hours, except the fact that Puerto San Julian's precipitation is desert-like.

Sunnier?

Sunshine hours are almost tied.

I'm going with Vancouver.....sunnier in summer.

Warmer too.

Don't like those coolish lows in Queenstown....below 10C / 50F in summer

Sunshine hours are not tied - the current Queenstown site has poor exposure. The airport site - more open - is averaging at least 2250 hours per year. The much lower rainfall means - which diminish further in the east of the area - are also most welcome.

Queenstown for having a more even distribution of sun/clouds/rain throughout the year and probably more thunderstorms.

Along with some other semi-alpine locations in the South Island, it has the uncommon attribute of being slightly wetter in both spring and autumn than in summer or winter, which takes some explaining even though the differences are not large.

This is an example of a good climate battle, each choice has compromises you have to accept rather than those boring black and white battles.

Agreed. These, or themed climate battles are the best. Not Mecca vs Vostok or some ****.

Really? No disrespect to Deneb (good bloke), but I thought this was poll was rather meh. The thing is, both are very similar climates (think, Sydney vs Newcastle, or something). I didn't find it compelling or intriguing.

Each to their own I guess. Maybe it's just me and that I kinda it get irked when people use virtually analogous climates to battle it out (because you don't know which to choose)...
