You're thinking of Turkmenistan, which is in fact a country.

Data for Turpan is missing record temperatures but since it has lower temperatures in the winter and hotter temperatures in the summer it has most likely experienced a higher record high and a lower record low:

I said most likely, not definitely.

But thanks for posting the more complete weatherbox. I've been wondering what the means and extremes of Turpan were.

Nice find, OP! I give it a B. If there was more rainfall throughout the year, it would earn an A.

Midale and Yellowgrass, SK may have hit 45 C at one time, but Saskatchewan summers on average are very cool by world standards. One can go several years without hitting 35 C, and decades without hitting 40 C. July/August frosts are more common than 40+ temperatures.

E. Just because of the high sunshine. Otherwise it would get an F.

besides record lows, the winters are not that bad and even then not that long. the biggest minus is the very hot summers and low precipitation. Because of that I gave it a C. decrease the summer highs by about 10F and give it an extra 10 in of precipitation and I'd probably give it a B+

Seasonal swings a bit too much for me. Winters are cold enough but seem too dry for my liking. Summers way too hot, as are the summer lows, but at least it isn't humid.

C+ for me, if I'm being generous.

Summers are nice but can get too hot, and winters are too cold.
