Go on, say, a French weather forum and wait for a hint of cold 850 hPa's to appear 284 hours out on the GFS anywhere west of Moscow. All the coldies will be wetting their pants.

If it isn't at least 50F/10C I'd rather be indoors, 9 times out of 10. We do get a lot of nice sub-50F days where it's very sunny and winds are calm, but aside from that you can keep any kind of cold away from me.

Tom likes to assume everyone shares his weather interests, so it doesn't surprise me that he would say this.

But there are lots of places that are "70f and sunny" in othere parts of the world. Look at the Pacific Coast of Peru or just about anywhere on the Meditarrenean or any coastal location in Aussie or most of southern Africa or Coastal Chile or the Pampas or anywhere in coastal Brazil or the eastern coast of The Black Sea. We're not asking for unicorns here, we're just asking the US to have same temperatures as Barca or BA or Montevideo or Montpellier

That sounds great! Can you grow papaya or mango there?

You're asking for the US to have the same climate as those places, despite the giant difference in geogrpahy? Come on, if you bothered to ever study climatology or meteorology you would know that's impossible.

Yes, with irrigation, we can and do grow tropicals here, the only thing we can't grow are coconuts. The trade off is more 90 and 100 degree days than you like. Today is supposed to be 108, and up to 116 Saturday (that is record temps though) normal high Saturday is 100

Don't you think we are a bit cold for our latitude? How come Greece is so mild despite being in the middle of a continent? How come the Great Lakes are so cold despite being at the same latitude as the Black Sea. Why is Northern Norway so warm despite being at 70° N? Btw there are parts of Norway closer to the pole than parts of Antarctica. Why is there a "Siberia high" but not a Scandinavia high?

Wow that sounds fantastic, would be a good place to settle down when I'm older, I always dreamed of having a garden with tropical fruits and palm trees

true, I mean just feel the need to be active and out and about enjoying the weather. the perfect day, most heavenly, most serene day to me, is a 70 degree day in march or April or October/ november with 0 clouds, calm winds, and just sunshine. Or a 45+ degree , sunny, windless day in winter. which temp wise is almost every day in winter.
