Well, you mentioned Ontario. All of populated Ontario is south of Kyzyl's latitude.

And Kyzyl's summers are basically the same as summers in southern Quebec around Montreal and all over southern Ontario.

For a place in Canada at Kyzyl's latitude, look at Regina, SK for example.

It has milder winters and summers are about 2 degrees C cooler.

Nobody lives in northern Quebec or Ontario because the climate there sucks ass. That's also why like two thirds of New York population lives downstate

I would say it has more in common to northern California than it is to eastern Washington, since WA is also much more north than Tashkent.

It is also because you can't build a modern city on muskeg soil (peat bog) which is what you deal with up there

You could build a city on it but it's just too expensive and nobody wants to live up there anyway.

Exactly, if it weren't for the tar sands, nobody would live in Ft McMurray, AB

I know it's not on the Great Plains but, wow, it's impressive. Miles City, Montana.

Redding, California is at same latitude as Tashkent but has a much warmer winter,
commercial citrus is grown in Redding area. Just shows how super mild California is.

Closest match to Tashkent in the US Great Plains at same latitude 41N I found is Sidney, Nebraska,
average highs are not too far off but lows are cooler. Bruneau, Idaho at about 43N is a decent match.

Agree, Kyzyl summers are no warmer than southern Ontario and SW Quebec,
and are a bit shorter too, with cooler shoulder seasons, not to mention a far colder winter.

Regina is not a bad match at similar latitude, though Regina is 1 degree farther south.

At same latitude at Kyzyl, 51N....Alsask, Saskatchewan is a slightly closer match.
