That's a broad statement. The Korean Peninsula during the winter might be colder than East Coast locations, but it isn't colder than the Midwest at the same latitude. The are however, quite cold considering it's a peninsula.
Colder than the Midwest....so it ain't so George....
People forget just how far south it is 35 to 38N roughly for South Korea,
that's like Malta or Scilly.
Even The People's Democratic Dictatorship of North Korea is pretty far south...
Here is a comparison of Pyongyang and Baltimore, Maryland USA ...both 39N
I wonder how the world cities population would look like if one can choose freely. I hope that cool oceanic climates would be much more populated. Do you think there would be cities with millions people in cold winter climates?
Well there are already very large cities in oceanic places such as London and ones with very cold winters such as Moscow.

If were just talking about weather...Probably much less population in East Asia and South Asia, and instead almost everyone would flock to Italy, France, Spain, Morocco, Albania, Greece, Croatia, Peru, Brazil, South Africa, Australia, Argentina, and Chile. I bet Barcelona and Marseille and Buenos Aires would each have like 50 million people lol

At the same latitude? 39N for Pyongyang or 37N for Seoul
Like St.Louis, Missouri ...it's about that latitude, also Evansville, and Cincinnati
Even without checking data....they are warmer in winter, not much warmer
but they are warmer...average January highs in 3C to 4C range.
Also in your state....the farthest south town in Illinois, Cairo
not to be confused with the other even hotter Cairo).
Isn't Cairo average January high is around 6C ?

Pusan in extreme SE South Korea comes close.
Here is a battle for you George, Cincinnati vs Pyongyang....both at 39N....
You're going the wrong direction. I was thinking more like Iowa/Nebraska. Never said anything about Seoul.
Having trouble clicking on the plots with my phone, but I know there are locations in Nebraska and Iowa's southern border (40N) that have lows below -11C in January.
