I am interested in places that have had days in winter that have felt anything but winter. (by a large margin)
I imagine places in the sahara, india middle east and Aus would be contenders for 40C+ temps.
Finally I wonder which place claims the title for hottest winter day.

I'd expect areas in the tropics e.g. Bamako (if you count DJF as winter then yes, 2/3 months have recorded 40˚C).

Ahmadabad, India

Nagpur, India and Wyndham, Western Australia are close-calls.

L.A is having a heat wave right now and DLTA is forecast to peak just short of 40C (high is forecast for 100F) tomorrow. Valleys should exceed 40C. Coast should peak at about 35C. Ooops, it's not winter, it's June.

Various places in Argentina have recorded +40ºC in August (never in June and July, though).
Villa Angela holds the national record for August with 42.5ºC. Santiago del Estero hit 40.5ºC once.
Theses ones must be among the few non-tropical places where temperatures above 40ºC have been recorded in winter...

Villamontes, Bolivia, has 44.0ºC as a record high for August, and according to Max Herrera, the highest winter temperature ever reported was 45.0ºC in both Malakal (South Sudan) and Nguigmi (Niger).

As far as I know nowhere in Australia has reached 40C in June and July.
Alice Springs has hit 35.2 c in August and 38.8c in september. Don't think it would be too far fetched if it pulled off 40c at the end of August or something. Then again it's record high in April isn't even 40c, although it's .1 away at 39.9.

Do some of these places even have formal, textbook understandings of winter seasons? I'd imagine that some of the places listed have a monsoon, spring, summer, fall, wet, dry, etc., season.
