Living in a more laid back area can certainly negate the stresses of working a stressful job, especially when the cost of living here is much cheaper than it is in places like London. You can live a high quality of life here without too much BS.
Not so sure about that at all. Salaries are typically commensurately larger in higher COL locations. In any case, without actually experiencing both lifestyles, I don't think we're in a position to state with any certainty.
I think Manchester city centre is quite nice - it's definitely an interesting city with some impressive Victorian-era buildings and warehouses.
One thing that I notice about it though. Well, two - it's dirty, and there are loads of homeless people. I have never seen so many homeless people as I have in Manchester.
Even the city centre? I think the place has its own type of beauty. Its gritty and real.
But people don't live in the city centre, most have to live in run down dumps. Manchester is single-handily the ugliest city I've ever visited, even footballers say the same.

I live a good lifestyle on a **** wage at the moment, I highly doubt I could live like this in a major city.
It has some really nice suburbs though, like Didsbury, Chorlton, Altrincham etc. A lot of it is ugly, but you can say the same for many cities in the world. A lot of London is ugly as well.
I think as long as you can live in the nice areas, it doesn't matter if the rest of it is ugly. You can avoid those areas very easily.

The problem is, Manchester can't even make the city centre look nice. Tbf, Leeds actually looks posh in comparison.
If you want to see really ugly suburbia, go to parts of West London, like Hayes or Hounslow. They are extremely dreary.
