Yeah, paying more than half of your income to the government sounds like a great life.
Yes, the UK tax system sucks. They refer to Middle Class or the top tax bracket as "43,000". At such a low salary we have to pay in 40%, Americans only have to pay 28% right up to 190,000..
This has affected my university finances. I don't get too much financial support from the government (almost the minimum), while people from lower incomes are getting Grants AND Maintenance loans - some as much as £8,000. To top this off, some of these people are then granted with Bursaries from the Universities just because they are born into a low income family.. I have looked on my university's site to see if they give out other awards but they are all income based - they should be merit based!!
All my maintenance money has to go on my accommodation, then my parents have to pay the rest of it and give me money to live on otherwise I would be living in poverty.
I know so many students from working class backgrounds who are running round on shopping sprees and having £800+ allowances to live on (this is no word of a lie), they should be the ones who are eating scraps and budgeting their money - not the rest of us.

Wow! My forecast high of 24 sounds pretty mild now.

December 31, 1967 they didn't warm past -22°F. LMAO . That's the record High Minimum for December.
For before Mid Month; December 11, 1995 -18°F is the record

Euro00z 850 temps for Thursday evening. Impressive Air mass for December but more so for Northeast than Upper Midwest. We don't see that -30C blob in Quebec every December. I wonder how often we do.
No, it sucks. Who wants to pay 40% of their salary off to the government at a salary of only £43,000.
I actually agree with this. The U.S system is much better, you're more resposible for yourself for and get to keep more of what you work for. It's not like we don't pay taxes here either, 35% is more than enough in a developed nation like the US, and it works as long as you don't have the government needlessly wasting money on bloated programs (Welfare, Military). There's no way I would ever move somewhere like Denmark where you give away over 60% of your earnings to the government.
Precip Events Coming up::
Wednesday - little snow possible.
Saturday Snow to Rain again.
Arctic Air Coming Up::
Wednesday night to Saturday morning will stay below freezing. Friday the coldest day
The last time Hartford had a max temp that stayed below 18° in December was 1993!
(Dec 17, 2013 they didn't pass 18°). It doesn't happen often they stay below 20! We'll see.
Same for the coast. (Dec 17, 2013 Bridgeport didn't pass 23°)

You get what you pay for though. Seems like the mistake isn't the system itself, but rather, what the US is prioritizing with it.

Check out Chicagoland (warmer readings are near the lake, colder are inland)

Not in my region. The United States has a low tax plan because of their population size.. If Hillary Clinton had got in the tax rates would've got down further.
Euro puts us in the DEEP freeze next Monday (after weekend snow?) with a -19F low at ORD!
