I love how a week ago January looked to be a torch and now it looks to freeze us. 4 below average Januaries in a row? A total of 10 in the past 16 years, we kind of are more than due some warm januaries.
One thing I noticed is the most recent cold snap dropped Oklahoma City to 4F, but in Raleigh it only fell to 27F. I suppose a lot of that blame can be placed on the Appalachian Mountains (and also the location of the trof).

I think the cold is in and out. Overall pattern is still controlled by the Pacific so average or above at least until mid January
Month to date Temperature rankings. Seems to me only Florida and a select few spots in SW is Top 10 warmest. There are more Top 10 coolest around.
Poor Florida, just sticking out like a sore thumb.
