Nuts. Just in time too. Looks like the front is approaching. Sometimes these crazy max's are perfected by timing of systems and fronts. If this front was 6hrs faster you would of never hit 70s.
What's interesting is that LEX has hit 80 in January, but never above 75 in December.
Step outside southern New England..... Last time we had a morning with temps in the 50s was mid October. Enjoy it guys. Should start dropping during the day after the front passes. (Its right over us right now)
, the low temperature in Indianapolis last Monday, December the 19th only bottomed out at -1F; meanwhile this afternoon, Indianapolis logged a high temperature of 66F,
I wonder if Indianapolis and Chicago usually display that big a range of temperatures from each other; I am referring to Chicago's low temperature last Monday which was -13F, and the high temperature of 54F that Chicago saw today.
Here is a reason I think contributed. Deeper snowcover around Chicago that morning. Plus you are south more. (even not by much makes a difference)

Did a little digging for curiosity of the setup for that day in January 24, 1943 when LEX hit 80°
Here is morning of Jan 24th. Sure enough, a Colorado storm that is heading to the Great Lakes which pushed a warm southerly surge ahead of it. From this looks like LEX was north of a front in the morning but that quickly moved north and a global warming surge came in. (sorry, had to)
Here is the morning of the 25th. Storm over Lake Huron while a cold front pushes east over Kentucky. At this point still on the warm side. Must of been a warm night too? Texas colder than Eastern Ohio because they have the return cold flow with a Canadian High coming down.
