I didn't know New England was actually below average. I knew it wasn't as warm as us and places south and west but I thought it was still above average. Snowpack must be keeping the temps down.
The fact that all the cold is going to New England already as opposed to here is a good sign, I think it means the early end of winter. Cold New England/mild everything else is a pattern you'd normally see in March or April. If the core of the cold was over Ontario or Quebec then I'd be worried. And that huge cold mass over Seattle and the Pacific Northwest is a great sign as well

We've averaged 0.9°F below average. It was above average before the snow, but not by that much. Late January was much warmer.
