Still very doubtful. Even if an exodus does happen it won't even put a dent in population. Texas has a high birth rate along with a mass migration and a surge of illegal immigration going on.

What on earth is happening in Austin? They’ve been reporting HEAVY snow for the last two hours... at an air temperature of -11C

They’ve got about 0.4 inches of liquid equivalent precip last two hours alone. I can’t even imagine the ratios at those temps.

It’s really bad.... I’m a former New Yorker .. we’re not equipped for this level of cold and snow. It’s terrible...the electric council is now doing rolling outages...horrible for those who have devices that depend on power (ie oxygen etc)...

Update - no power right now in 7 degrees

I've never even experienced heavy snow at 11F here in the metro area. Coldest I can remember a snowstorm here was 13 or 14 degrees. I used to live in Austin several years ago, and one of the reasons I moved back to NY was because I missed the cold. How ironic! Anyways, stay safe.

I find most of the US to be this way. Very few places that don't have wild swings.

I wonder sometimes (and perhaps I am just not aware) why more tech is not put into either ways to control weather or ways for homes / humans to effectively deal with weather swings.

FWIW as a homeowner in TX one ought to have generator power if only because of the threat of severe storms disrupting power fairly frequently.

Truly shows just how warm Houston-Galveston has been the last 30 years. There are queen palms that were planted in the 90s that will probably be wiped out. The royal palms in Galveston were also planted in the 90s. Such a shame.

way more than that will be wiped out. Every last mango tree, citrus tree, date palm, livistona, washintonia and possibly even live oaks. It will look no different than the mid atlantic after these temps.

Not after this week it won't. No way.
