Nice! Another place on my list of places to visit. Have always wanted to see where the Appalachians go right into the Atlantic Ocean without any coastal plain.

Far further from whom? The Carib is a two hour plane ride for many many Americans or even less. I'm three hours from Puerto Rico, and four hours from Barbados. Charlotte NC is 800 miles from Havana, Cuba. The Carib has always been our winter playground, even with all those Euro Colonies there. Just too far for many Europeans to venture there for winter getaways.

It is 900 miles for a British person to fly from Central England to this place in Spain. Greece or Sicily would be much further.

This is 900 miles from Philly, and many folks from this area go here in winter. Technically not the Carib, but just about. And far warmer in winter than anywhere in the Med.

well from here it is not that far. English people just live too far north, it's their choice anyway. And by plane you can easily reach Tunisia and Morrocco then.

People took jet skis and were in the bahamas in an hour from a dock in florida. We take that short trip to bahamas alot boating, if it wasnt for the landing fees in the bahamas I would do it all the time. Quicker than driving to orlando , its only about 50 miles to the bahamas.

Most of the history of these southern coastal towns are tied in with the caribbean, pirates, rum trade, early settlers etc, so much of florida, places like charleston were founded by people from places like bermuda.

Well I did say in my post "Northern Europeans". For Swedes and such it is even much further.

I have to say the Rocky Mountains in New Mexico are not nearly as dramatic as I thought they would be. They are not steep and sharp, they are more rounded like large hills. What I mean is like the Appalachians just without trees. I thought there would be more dramatic peaks and craggy like mountains.
Katahdin looks steeper and shaper than Sierra Blanca and I think the other New Mexican peak he showed. The southern Rockies are rather rounded and often above high plateau. But Utah and Colorado do have some steep peaks
