I found an article online about an interesting meteorological phenomenon: deep hail. It is when hail from a thunderstorm falls for long enough that it accumulates on the ground to a depth of two inches or more. Statistics on it are lacking, but it looks impressive. I think it's impressive that some places can look like winter in May or June. There's one report of hail accumulating to a depth of one foot in 1898, but I'm not sure if it's valid.
