I think I'm at the lower end of the type III type, and I look pretty pale in the winter, but with enough sun I can get pretty dark. Had I lived in SoCal then I'd be pretty tanned even in the winter probably.
Richard Hammond is an example of type II type in my eyes. He just tans himself a bit, so he would look a notch higher. Here is a "normal" picture of him without his usual tan; He naturally looks like a II to me.

I'm not too adept at identifying this skin type stuff. But I think I'm probably a III. Less vulnerable than a II, so I'm content with that.

I don't think most type II's would get this tanned though would they?

He's not exactly dark but that's quite a lot of tan. Had he had blonde hair, that tan would border on ridiculous.

Yeah, he looks like a III, not a II.

Brand and Cole seem really dubious to me. They've got "foreign" features even though they both claims to be fully English. Btw, Brand reminds me of Iraqi singer Kathem Al Saher. I wouldn't be surprised if he has Arab ancestry.

People here are making wild assumptions, the predominant type in southern England is a mixture of type II/III.. why are people trying to doubt this without backing it up with evidence? Showing a few pictures of some famous celebrities doesn't help either. I will find the study that was posted on here, and by the way type III isn't as dark as you think. Most typical southern Europeans are type III/IIII. Richard Hammond is definitely type III

Type iii has olive undertones, he doesn't look like he does. Unless type iii is really just white that tans good rather than light olive then he isnt type iii.

Type 4 seems to be the best when you weigh up the pros and cons.

It's important to take the tanning factor into account, especially for dark-haired people. For example, the common perception of Cristiano Ronaldo is of a bronzed Latino, when he naturally looks like this:
