This is surreal, clear skies, calm winds, bright moon ,starry skies and icy ground. Went outside, the ground was twinkling under the moonlit starry sky. Took a picture of the ground and it looked no different than the sky. Was bright enough to see my tracks and shoes. One of the most beautiful experiences I have ever had.
GymFanatic would like this. 6°F below freezing and the snow gone in a day. Doubt this could happen at my latitude, I suppose it could in March? Snow cover is very thin in the image, though.
U.S Snow cover this morning (northeast hasn't been updated, have to wait till tomorrow now). I believe That's sleet on ground down in Mississippi
There's sleet on the ground here too in spots this morning. It's not widespread as a good bit melted yesterday. The pic below is on the north side of my house.
It got down to 21F here last night, not quite as cold as the 17F that NWS was forecasting. Also it looks like NWS revised the low the previous night from 19F up to 20F.

That's one of the great things about living here and why I actually think it's ok that we "shut down" over mere inches of snow. It's gone so quickly and really isn't that frequent. School systems notorious for shutting down over nothing still only budget 3 days in the calendar and often don't use all of them. My county really only budgeted 2 days the 3rd was just the day after the scheduled last day.

Walhalla SC is just 20 miles north of me and got 5 inches more than me. Seneca is 6-7 miles SE of Walhalla and 15 miles north of me and got 3 inches total. That's quite the gradient and the maps shows that though it's hard to read. The difference between Mauldin and Greenville, GSP and Greer is absurd. Mauldin is just across I 85. Downtown to downtown is only 7 miles.
We didn't get as cold as forecast. 19.6 was the lowest it got compared to a forecast of 16. May have been due to the non existent snow pack. There's very patchy snow left in the woods. Drove out around 9 and roads were in great shape. In 10 miles there may have been 3 instances of black ice but all of it was small and easy to avoid. Even if you didn't notice it it probably wouldn't have caused a wreck. Our cove is in bad shape because of the drought but the part that's only 1 foot deep (if that) froze over. With a high near 40 today and a bright beautiful clear day (I rarely get to see the mountains 20-30 miles away so clearly) I think all remaining snow will be gone. One more really cold night then a low in the mid 20s Tuesday. After that we won't even drop below 40 for the forecastable future.
