It appears that the South has been stuck under a Ridiculously Resilient Ridge for almost a year now.
You guys got much luckier with the springs than us. April and May were awful here last year, and April of 2015 was cold too. March 2015 was the 5th coldest March on record. On the other hand November 2015 was insanely warm here (followed by an even more insane December)
Binghamton is at +5.6F for the month. If you don't remember the last time we had an April this warm, it's because more than half a decade has passed. LaGuardia is sadly at just +4.2F, which is still the warmest April since 2010
Kenedy Airport hasn't passed 70F yet in April. Thank the lord I don't live by there. I think the Rockaways would be even worse

Farther away from a cold body of water the warmer it is
Binghamton departures. I'll do Laguardia later since it's not as interesting

From 8 out of 10 months below average in 2015, to 14 out of 17 above average since November 2015. Like a switch just flipped in the end of 2015. I only put months when they were in the top 10 extremes, but quite a few were 11-15th. But with records only going back to 1952, top 15 isn't really impressive
Got a very heavy downpour earlier this morning, and it's very cloudy outside with lots of dark clouds. Been rather rainy the past three days and I'm loving it making me look forward to wet season.
That's weird; all the other ocean temperature maps I'd seen had warm anomalies near the coast. This must be a recent development?
Most likely since beginning of March? You don't get a record Top 10 cold month (March) and water temps off coast to be above normal in April. The NW Arctic flow pattern started cooling temps below normal beginning-mid March. Slowly we'll go back to normal if this warmer above normal pattern remains in place for April.
