First significant snowfall of the season for Southern Africa, hope the ski resorts there get a good season like in 2016.

New ECMWF 12z showing great snow accumulations on the Andes and Southern Patagonia next 10 days, seems that the ski resorts will finaly open for the season, there are also chance of flurries on the coast of Santa Cruz province.

Finally open? It's only early May. When would you expect them to open?

I often got a few days of passable skiing during May, when working on ski fields down south. Working nightshift, and skiing wind drifted gullies with a few inches of powder on top, during full moon, was pretty awesome.

It didn't usually last though, and mid June is when it usually gets serious

Look the Gfs 18z meteogram for Coyhaique, an important city of southern Chile, the model show a low of 8F/-13C and heavy snow between 220h-240h, just to remember that Coyhaique all time record low for May is only -11C, lets keep looking, a good event is in way.
