Eh Sierras should reach 60°F at 10,000 feet. That's free air temperatures. Daily max where the sun hits land will be hotter. Gem Lake at 9000 feet has a June monthly max of 65°F in June, 73°F in July. But Toulumne Meadows (8600 feet) was reporting mid 70s as a high which I think is normal for them. Good example of surface vs free air?
Yup, good example. Sun hitting the land will warm it up more. Also if station is near pavement, ect. But even your example is only a 5-8 degree difference.. 70s is hard to get. Doubt its ever been in the 80s at that level.
6am June 26 temp departures this morning...
Temps. I'd love to experience 30s or low 40s one Summer morning. I only remember low 50s as the lowest in my lifetime.
Look at that 48F low for Aurora on Tuesday... Aurora which is under 30 miles west of MDW usually sees the coldest minimums in the Chicagoland area.
Aurora also recorded a high of 111F in July 1936. With an average high that month of over 96F. Look how masked from the heatwave the Univ. of Chi was being under 2 miles from the lake.
ORD is still nearly 5F+ above normal for the month. Today and tomorrow will knock it down some, but then that's it. Lets see how much this recent cool snap brings down the anomalies over the Midwest/East
Some heat now showing up in the 11-15 day

Hahaha, and I thought it was hot here at 35C. I can't even imagine what 47C would feel like

26 or 35? That's a big difference.
