Look at the Texas temperature map again, and see where the urban areas are in relation to the highest temperatures. Hottest temps are in the far south near the border where there is no impact from a UHI.

Yeah, UHI has only a very small impact on daytime max temps. Maybe a degree or two on hot days.. The minimums on the other hand can see a huge impact.

Not nearly to the same extent during the day as during the night.



80 F with a 75 F dew point at FLL with a thunderstorm. That same storm came through my area about an hour - an hour and a half ago.

Alright, I should have been more specific regarding the application of UHI to the heat; it would just be the Texas Triangle + El Paso that it mainly applies to. Nevertheless, it certainly can't be denied that daytime highs in Houston, Austin, etc, would certainly be much cooler without Sunbelt-sprawl induced UHI (even if the effect is greater at night).
