Compare coldest places in Siberia/Mongolia/Manchura to Northern North America.
Ulaanbaatar is relatively same latitude and longitude from ocean to Minneapolis. But it is colder on average. Why is that?
What about say Saskatoon, Prince Albert, or Fort McMurray to cities just east of Urals like Omsk, Novosibirsk, Irkuytsk?
or How about Saguenay to Khabarovsk or Harbin?
Which is generally colder in winter between Old World and New World?
just speculating... while the distance to the sea is similar, ulaan baatar has much more landmass to the west. it's also constantly affected by the siberian high in winter, as is evident by the ridiculous low all-time high in january: -2.6C. that's 13C lower than e.g fairbanks, that has a lower january average temperature. add to that the fact that ulaan batar is 1300masl.
Ulaanbaatar is 3º north of Minneapolis and more than 1000 meters higher, this is more than enough to roughly explain why the former is significantly colder.
In case of the annual range, Asia is a bigger landmass than North America, hence the difference between summer and winter gets bigger too. Then, the relative location of a place respect to the winter highs/summer lows works about the same way in both continents, providing similar climate patterns and average temperatures for equivalent sites. Finally, the diverse geographic features of each one will bring 'assymetries' here and there.

I did not know it was higher elevation. But also I hear Ulaanbaatar gets sweltering hot in summer. Shouldnt the summers be cooler due to elevation or did I just hear wrong?
