Caen, looks far more prone to heatwaves, but with more cold snaps on the flip side. Other than that they're nearly identical.

I think that was the 2003 biggie for Caen .

All i know that Sotons record is in June of all months 35 .6 in 1976

Soton, I lived there for 4 years during uni and frost and snow were at a minimum. Certainly less than Caen would get.

Other than that, they have the same sun hours and temps. Soton slightly drier, Caen has more extremes of heat and cold.

The weather box isn't great for Southampton tbf, but it goes without saying that the extremes are more moderated.
