Similar cold waves happened before:

June 8, 2014
June 20, 2010
August 4, 2008

And then, the infamous 2005 one: June 17, 2005. It dropped to -17 °C that year.

Damn, June 2005 was really cold there.

18pm lowest temperatures in Argentina/Chile :

Perito Moreno, Santa Cruz : -5.4C
Balmaceda, Aysen region : -12C

Tomorrow morning is the best time to Balmaceda reach the first -20C since 2010.

Temperature anomaly since the cold blast initiated, torching subtropical regions and well below average in Patagonia, last year it was the opposite :

Auckland (Mt Albert) had a 16.2C day, back in May. Pukekohe (rural area to the south of Auckland) has had 15.2C, and three 15C days since the start of May.

Nothing for Wellington, but nearby Martinborough had an 11.6 in the first week of June.

Lincoln, near Christchurch, has had a 7.6C day in the first week of June, and three days below 10C so far for June.

The 7.6C day would be colder than the average coldest day for here, but there are around 6 days of 10C or colder

Chilly in Chile
But it is very cold, I think Balmaceda has a special Geography that give it all this cold, but this can be some error, I will wait until next actualization to confirm.

21:00pm temperature map, Balmaceda is a cold hole, it is the coldest temperature since 2010 when it registered -21.6C, something very strong is happening, snow cover+clear skies = god bless the inhabitants of this town.

Santiago is right now under a cold spell. Today it was a cold day there (max of 8.4ºC in the downtown).
In Buenos Aires the cold air has just arrived. So, in the next days maybe we will record our first polar blast in many years.

Actually more like a village
The nearby Perito Moreno reported -11.2ºC at 21pm. With all the snow still fresh and now the skies clear there will be some great low figures down there. Even Esquel will face maybe a -15ºC or lower.
The most impressive today was again Perito Moreno with an icy day of -15ºC/-2.2ºC.

Some new photos. Some areas reporting above 50cm of accumulation.

Spoiler

Esquel (Insane)

Paso de Indios (this is in the middle of a desert!! do you believe it?)

Trevelín

Maquinchao
