These days are being extremely hot in Madrid, Spain. We are reaching nearly 40C (104 F), the sun burns your skin and the environment is dry. This situation will last until monday, the very first heat wave in this year. The funny thing is that 500 km to the north (310 miles), they have 19C (66F), outstanding and green landscapes, similar to Scotland but this is Madrid, in this time of the year too much dry, poor and arid landscapes.

The weather in Madrid is quite different from winter to summer. In winter you would expect 0C (32F), sometimes even snows, and very hot in summer 35-40C (95-104 F), without any air breeze. There is not much rain, Madrid is a dry place, sometimes we suffer from droughts. Sounds familiar to you? I am curious to know, which places in the US are similar to Madrid in terms of weather?

Albuquerque has low avgs of -3°C in January, Madrid 3°C. The lows are pretty colder in the winter.

And it receives a bit more than half of the rain. Besides if we talk about summer temps: they're 98% akin.

Although Albuquerque recives quite much more rain than Madrid in the summer, being it's wettest season.

If it's for the actual forecast you nailed it! Both have almost the same forecast (a lot above average), extremely low humidity, sunny...

Temp-wise maybe North Carolina (but much more humid and wet of course)...

Aside from that New Mexico's elevated areas is probably the best bet as had already been mentioned before me!

High-wise a Madrileño would feel perfectly at home here:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/O'Brien,_Oregon#Climate

But that's basically the only similarity

Only part of Madrid with 3c lows is the center city... rest of city ranges form -1 to 1c.

What? Nowhere in Madrid averages -1ºC in January. In fact not a single station (even quite outside of the limits of Madrid) averages less than 0.2ºC in January.

Those 3°C are on the Central Park of Madrid aka Retiro Park which is the green lung of Madrid and it's a very big park, close to the center but not the center itself.

The other stations go from 0 to 2ºC, not -1 to 1. Check by yourself: http://www.aemet.es/es/serviciosclim...ologicos?k=mad Cuatro Vientos airport can be considered Madrid (although is in the very outskirts) and it's 1.6ºC in January.

Besides there is nowhere in Madrid with an -1°C average lol, where have you seen that? Even Colmenar Viejo, north of Madrid at 1004m (3294ft) of altitude has a low average of 1.6ºC in January! http://www.aemet.es/es/serviciosclim...?l=3191E&k=mad

I created that climate section, I found that one on Weatherbase a few years back. It's essentially a hinterland extension of the extreme valley conditions in NoCal just north of the border, only closer to the sea than Happy Camp, enabling low-pressure systems to get a hold in winter!

I hope everything's correct with it, but I reckon it may well is!
