before that there used to be odd days here and there ,usually well into the New Year during a cold snap - from memory maybe a 3 day spell in Jan followed by a 2 day spell in Feb or even March .

Seems really alien now .

General daytime winter pattern in January was for a long time

6 - 9C cloudy ,dry (most common by a distance)
4 - 7c sunny (next most common)
7-10 light rain (maybe 20 - 30 hours of rain in a month )

and nights can be really cold -2 / or really mild overnight - more often cold though with guaranteed frosts after clear days

last few winters crazy mild temps - but you also get them now in Stockholm Ha
quite boring really is winter

San Francisco is such a small micro climate though. Just 15 miles outside the city and you are in a whole other climate in terms of sunshine, and summer temps that would blow away anything within hundreds of miles of London...

But as I've said before. This is London vs San Francisco. Not London vs San Francisco and the wider area.

London at least can grow some few species of palm trees. That's a very positive thing for warm lovers like me. I know that with B87, I hope that this thread won't get that as I made the votes public!

I don't know anyone that hates London. Give the average American a free trip to London say vs somewhere in the US and around 90% would choose London I would think. It is a fantastic city and far cleaner and more interesting than NYC. People shouldn't define a city by its climate. Who really cares that much about climate (unless it will kill you) if the city is a great place to visit and see the sights. You don't have to live in the climate, just visit.

So can I, it's just a bit funny at times. Although I imagine my attempt at Spanish would be hilariously bad

Then I would still pick San Fran because if I wanted summer warmth, all I'd have to do is basically cross the Golden Gate bridge.

That's my choice though. And I base it on convenient access to much better climates nearby.
