Happens anytime of year. A warm front can come through in the evening here in the summer after clouds and a cool day and the max temp of the day goes up at night reaching the max of the day.

The question OP has is "how often". The answer is, Not often. Just a wild guess out of 365 days in a year the max coming at night happens ... 7 times?

In summer and late spring? I guess it's must have happened before but I can't think of that happening before.

Of course it does. Happened just few days ago in Eastern MA. Harder to happen in Summer but it can.

Yes, but only during the late fall, winter, and early spring when a strong cold front moves through overnight. January 9, 2010 was the most extreme recent example of this:

Lots of times in winter, spring and late fall when we get a cold snap or warm spell. Never in summer.

Happens on occasion, but not often. I'd say about 5 days a year, typically during the colder half of the year. One example is January 7, 2015:

https://www.wunderground.com/history...lyHistory.html

Midnight high, 11:59 pm low. At midnight it was 27 F / -3 C and at 11:59 pm it was 7 F / -14 C.
