Euro has a west based La Nina right now for this this winter
Would be better for the PNW. I remember seeing some maps which showed the temp departures during west and east based Ninas and west based Nina's generally give us the colder winters out of the 2.
I think this winter we will see a full basin La Nina event.

Is anyone surprised? This is probably the second leg of the Niña that started during the spring/summer 2016 and probably stalled or aborted. Also Niñas, especially during "cold phase" are more persistent and stable than Niños.

The eastern Pacific often reacts faster than Niño 3.4. That doesn't mean its really an east-based event.

you mean worse. La Nina is usually colder and wetter. El Nino is warmer and sunnier.
Snow is nice but not in the city since everything shuts down. 2 snow days will be great. More would be a nightmare.
