true lol blow torch or deep freeze. You never know with La Nina.
I think we will be negativw border line La Nina this winter. But you never know
In NYC that winter, December had a nice snow event that at teh very end turned to a bit of rain, and then a late December torch. January was deep-freeze. Remember "Miracle on the Hudson" as memorialized in the movie "Sully"? Mid-to-late February was a torch, followed by a pretty big snowstorm on March 2, 2009. La Niñas tend to be fickle like that.
1973-4 and 2010-1 were strong Niñas that also alternated something fierce. 2010-1 was on balance colder and snowier than 1973-4, even though that winter certainly had its moments.
1966-7 was a cold neutral, with a cold December, very torchy January and deepfreeze/lots of snow in February and March.

Winter of 08-09 here was intense. We had about 53" of snow
December was all over the place, but overall below normal.

January was basically an icebox
February had wild swings
In 2008, Vancouver was less than a cm away from recording the snowiest December on record. Almost 90cm(3 feet) fell at the airport which is situated at sea level right next to the water.
The suburbs got well over that amount, measuring over 100cm and even approaching 120cm(4 feet) that December. January was pretty chilly save for a massive pineapple express in the second week which still didn't melt all the snow despite temps near 10C, rain over 100mm and strong southerly winds for a couple days. The rest of the month featured a pretty strong inversion pattern with even more snow at the end.
February was relatively chilly, with a bit of snow but not much rain and there was still snow on the ground which had began falling in mid-December. It finally all melted by March, right before another snowstorm (by March standards) which dropped around 10cm of snow. We even got accumulating snow in April 2009.
Looking at your graph for January....wow, it went down to -24F?!?

yes, early Jan 2009 was ferociously cold. The city bottomed out at -19F, I live 38 miles south. Western suburbs were even colder!
In the immediate Chicago area. Chi Aurora recorded a -30F
As did Joliet
That is crazy.
Vancouver recorded a low of -15.2C that winter (most winters only get down to around -10C) which was the coldest temp recorded at the airport since January 1969 I believe. Most of the suburbs had low mins that winter in the in the -16C to -18C range.
I hope we don't get a repeat of last winter or 08-09 down here.
