Exactly as the title asks.

I would take the 0C in July. I like occasionally winter warmth, but 40C would just feel intolerable in winter when I'm used to cold temperatures. Also a freezing high in the middle of summer would be more interesting to me than 40C in the middle of winter. Of course, I wouldn't want either to happen.

I would rather have 0℃ in July but it'd be impossible in İzmit. So I suppose that I am taken to a different place in July. I choose 0℃.

For İzmit:
Record low in July is 10.1℃
Record low in August is 10.9℃

I've felt very close to 40C in January when I was in Argentina but I know what you mean. I would rather have 40C in the winter as opposed to 0C in the summer

I think must remain a question without an answer, for me.

Both sound really bad, but I just don't know what would be worse.

I like both hot and cold weather but summer is more important than winter to me. I'd only choose 0C in July if the warm season is long and warm enough (at least 3 months of average highs >27C).

Flip the seasons for the Southern Hemisphere so for you it would be 40C in July or 0C in January.

I'd love me some 40'C in winter. It would clear away the snow, hopefully bringing on spring sooner. Guess the plants would risk freezing to death though...
