Could be cylcical. We used to have more hot spells (and cool spells) in the summer. Now just more mundane warmth. I don't know why.

August has been above normal moreso than not in recent years, but more or less, only marginally so...

We too have not seen a truly hot August since 1995 (avg max temps).
This will most likely be the 6th consecutive above average August for us. We've also has 5 consecutive above average Julys.

Trends here at MDW by decade since records began there in 1928.





So far this decade 2010-2017 to date, it's been a little better but only thanks to 2012. Avg number of 90F+ days is back up to 22. Long term POR is 23.


High today was 31C at both Chicago airports...... Cool off begins tomorrow... By Wednesday highs will only reach 23-26C across the metro area (cooler lakeshore).

Terrible forecast for late August. This time last year, we had a couple lows in the low 50s F. Now there's nothing below mid 60s.
