It's been cold this winter but the lack of snow is very annoying.

Not much snow forecast, and after this week a big warm up. MJO moving into phases 4 and 5

It's pretty strange how there can be such a lack of snow but still such consistent cold. Seems unusual in most parts of the world that average a decent amount of winter snowfall.

We had that for a week at the end of December and into January in and around NYC, cold but no snow. Happens cause the coldest weather is from dry, arctic air masses. The lake effect belts will get cloud and snow when they move in, and northern New England gets a clipper. But the Midwest west of the Great Lakes has rather dry winters.
