Extreme for California or the NW?

Definitely not extreme for the NW because we've seen much colder temps than what we've seen recently at this time of year. No daily record lows have even been challenged in Vancouver (ex. yesterday's low was -6.5C, daily record low was -10.4C). Hell, we haven't even seen a subfreezing high with this airmass.

Dont know whats going on there maybe the sun? but yes, its on the extreme end at 850mb. Not extreme because there were few colder times but -10C is on that side of the extreme spectrum. See this mornings posts for proof.

As far as the surface... i am seeing record cold across the West. There's always going to be locations that dont break...doesnt mean its not an arctic/extreme airmass "aloft".. you know?

Record cold west. Record warm east..

Daily low-temperature records were also broken on Monday (new record is in parentheses) in Butte, Montana (24 degrees below zero); Casper, Wyoming (21 degrees below zero); Redding, California (25 degrees, tied); and Sacramento, California (29 degrees). A record-cold high temperature was also set on Monday in Billings, Montana (3 degrees)

Not really the sun. It's because of the change in wind direction (look closer). Winds blowing off the cold waters of the Atlantic will drop your temperatures fairly rapidly.

I remember you getting very excited for single digit Fahrenheit temps a while back. Did you even manage to drop below 20 F from this airmass?

Just saw that. Thanks. Yeah, that'll do it! Pretty rapid.

Last one.. Lets use the 925mb temp air mass now.. (2500')... For Oregon... Has it been colder? Of course.. But what side of the extreme is it on and how low is it?

How about we agree to call it impressive instead of Extreme. I think It's not often the PacNW gets an airmass this cold. Right?

BTW -- These are actual observations, not model forecasts.
