unless you live top of Mt. Mitchell or some where 5500 feet+ its hard for me to believe you unless you post some links. Please no personal obs and rather some official data. Not too mention your forecast is nothing but 70s... yeah, you most definitely did not just hit 78... unless you can prove it.
So this year, your place set its all time record high?
İzmit set its all time record high in July 2000 with 44.1°C.
This year, İzmit hit 40.2°C but it happened on 20th September, not July.
What is more important is humidity actually. In Early July, we had a high around 35°C but it felt terrible because of too much humidity. 40.2°C that we had on 20th September felt better than 35°C that we had in early July because of less humidity.
I think Serbia and here had a similar sauce this year. Climatically it is very similar, although their winters are a bit better (i.e. colder) than here.
It wasn't too humid though this summer. I don't think it ever went above 23c dp, but I'll have to check. Of course it probably went higher down in the plain in the Po swamp lands.
