I'm guessing those locations see something like 36 inches at least once per season rather than 63. Then again, this was over the course of four days, so you could be correct.
The areas mentioned were due to get about 50 inches of snow a few days ago. It varied dramatically how much everyone got, but it was significant. Old Forge had 24 inches fall overnight. Perfectly normal there.
Here are some of the other worst weather stories. My own worst event was Buffalo's Blizzard of '77, since I got stuck on the highway that goes around Buffalo for several days. Good times!
That's a great photo, I love it! It seemed to me that I remember playing as a child in the 1960's in the aftermath of snowstorms like that but I can't substantiate that. I saw a photo taken from the '40's in my family's album of a scene like that but can't find anything to validate my memories of the '60's.
I left all this snow over 50 yrs ago for So. Calif. and right now the ski areas like Mammouth Mtn are do their best to make snow for their business of skiers. Last winter there was more snow/rain, but it's been pretty bone dry here since March 2017.

Yup.. Jet stream kept dipping out west last year bringing cold and snow to the mountains, and when it wasn't, the Jet stream was flat with a strong Pacific West to East flow, hence why we had a Warm winter in the East last year...until Feb-March that is.
This year the Jet stream is dipping in the East, hence the warmer / drier west going on now. Just the way the Jet goes. It never stays still, it's always been changing positions forever. Some years or decades more deeper than others
Hmm, I was wrong.. I thought the warm Lake helped produces the big Lake Effect Snows this month... Guess not. It's just normal temps over Lake Erie. Just a matter of how the persistent band set up and the winds.

It's the midlevel temperature - surface contrast + water warmth. Previous early winters have had warmer than usual lakewater. But late fall was cold enough the lake cooled off to normal even with the really warm late September and October.
Just when you thought you live in a place that sucks weather wise in the winter you always find somewhere else that sucks more lol..
No way, it doesn't suck...this is awesome
I lived in the South for 8 years as an adult and trust me, you get bored really quickly with all of that heat and sun. Or at least I did
I'm personally loving all of this snow and winter weather we are having here.
I don't think that Toronto's weather is bad either. You have a good 4-season climate there too and I love your city.
